O.L.S. – installment 2

…18 months later…chuckle…. Well, at least I’m getting back to it.

Jarod and I “officially” met in Mar of ’06 at a mutual friend’s wedding.  We’d “seen” each other one other time before meeting at the wedding at a homeschool league basketball game.  We now know there were several people that would’ve liked for us to meet then, but God knew exactly when was right.  (He met my brother at that game though, and thus began a very good friendship.  They made plans to play ball later that weekend, something they continue to do together 2 years later.)  Jarod says he wanted to meet me that night, but God kept impressing on him the importance of “hands off” and letting Him.

I attended the wedding with my cousin and spent most of the evening with her and a good friend, Susan.  At the reception, Jarod happened to get in line behind us and Susan, who trained him at HQ introduced us.  We fell easily into conversation and as he was alone, decided to hang close to us that night.  At one point in the evening he went off to speak to someone else and I caught a glimpse of him playing with a group of little boys from church.  I remember it well… He was so clearly their friend.  Somehow he’d managed to not bring them into his “big” world but to enter their young world.  That’s a special place not many adults are able to go and it was precious to watch.  At that moment I had the first “this could be a possibility” thought.  I was immediately ashamed of myself and stomped that thought – the silly way a girl’s mind works….  That evening there was evidence all around that match making is still in business.  I had at least 4 different women ask to introduce us and Jarod had several guys do the same.  What a hoot!

An interesting note.  Jarod had been with friends that afternoon in N. GA and had thought about not coming to the wedding, but in the end decided to because the bride was a girl from the church he was pastoring.  One of his friends jokingly told him he should go – he just might meet the girl he’d marry that night!!    He later called his dad on the trip home wanting to make him aware that he’d noticed me…

  1. Beautiful people, beautiful post. God loves you, so keep on smiling, ’cause when you’re smiling, the whole world smiles at you. As you are well aware, God made the whole world, including your smile.

  2. Hey, 18 months later…no problem; we’re still enjoying the story! Thanks for sharing. You’ve been on my mind lately; I’m sure you’ve returned from your trip and you and Jarod have a lot to think through and make decisions about. Hope all is well!

  3. Your story is a special one, you take all the time in the world…But make sure you are writing it somewhere else for the sake of the children to come.  They need to know how MIGHTY God’s power is too.  There were so many little things that came together so perfectly.  But not like ‘so many’ were trying to work out for you…smiling.  Your children will appreciate those moments in time.  I love you and hope Ezekiel is doing better with the travels.

  4. That was so nice 🙂 hehe.  The part where you said something about how a girls mind works and the whole “hmm, maybe he’s a possibility” was the funniest part.  So true! haha.
I like what you said about Jarod going into their “young” world too.  Kinda fairytaleish 🙂 It’s true that he does that very well…people like that are so much more fun!
