This morning Mary Frei trusted in Jesus as her Savior! We are rejoicing in the simplicity of redemption that it can confound the wisest yet be understood by the youngest of children.
Mary Frei came into the kitchen saying a few things to me about wanting to be a Christian. She’s so young yet I immediately felt the Holy Spirit whisper so I didn’t brush her off with a pat answer but eventually encouraged her to go speak to her Daddy who was studying his sermon. (That’s a pretty big deal in our house on Sunday morning. We work hard not to interrupt Daddy.) He set aside his work and they talked for a while. Not wanting to push her but wanting her to be responding to the drawing of the Holy Spirit he told her to think about it for awhile and she went to play while waiting for breakfast.
About 20-30 mins later she crept back into the room with Daddy and insisted she had thought about it and she wanted to pray. Jarod said he instantly “heard” the Lord say, “Suffer the little children to come to me….She’s coming to Me, do not send her away.” So he let her pray and then scooped her up into his lap. He says she prayed very simply, “Dear God, please forgive my sins. In Jesus name, Amen.” They talked a little about being in God’s family. I heard her tell him, “Daddy, God’s family is bigger than your family.” She does not understand it all but she knows she’s a sinner and she knows Jesus forgives those sins.
Jarod scratched his planned sermon and preached simple salvation today. We grown up people make this much too hard. Jesus says to come with the faith of a child.
