Boys and butter

Butter is a favorite around here. Cornbread and butter is the tops. In fact there was near mutiny last week when I dared serve soup without cornbread on a hotter than normal day and didn’t want to further heat up the house.

But last night there was cornbread and as the meal was ending I split the last 3 pieces so each child could have a little more. Elisha cut his bread in half and then helped himself to a large slab of butter. “Son,” Jarod said, before Elisha could get it to the bread, “that’s entirely too much. Please slide it back onto the butter dish and cut it in half.” Elisha immediately and exactly obeyed though he looked a bit confused. Then he took one half of the butter and put it on the first half of his bread, then the second half of the butter and put it on the second half of his cornbread. Jarod and I erupted in chuckles. “I meant for you to spread one half on both pieces.” Zeke interjected, “Daddy, us boys NEED more fat.”
